The Principal Engineer, Core Infrastructure joins the Technical Strategy & Oversight organization to build foundational systems for Autonomous OCI. This role focuses on developing Lightweight Infrastructure, the next-generation runtime and platform layer for compute, storage, networking, identity, observability, and governance. You will lead the design and delivery of core distributed systems, driving complex technical work from initial design through implementation and operational readiness. Key responsibilities include solving difficult problems involving distributed state, failures, performance, and automation. You will utilize programming languages such as Java, Go, Rust, and C/C++ to build multi-tenant platforms, secure networking layers using eBPF, and hardware-rooted security. The work addresses the business problem of scaling cloud services to thousands of regions while reducing manual operational complexity through self-healing, resilient, and fast infrastructure.

What we're looking for
Applicants must be able to read, write, and speak English.
BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience is required.
6–10+ years of software engineering experience building highly available, scalable distributed systems or cloud infrastructure is required.
Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Rust, C/C++, or a similar systems or backend language are required.
Deep experience in core infrastructure areas like distributed systems, cloud control planes, virtualization, storage, networking, or security is required.
Ability to independently lead the design and delivery of complex, resilient, and observable services is required.
Strong understanding of failure handling, concurrency, asynchronous workflows, and lifecycle management in distributed systems is required.
Experience building cloud platforms on OCI, AWS, Azure, or GCP (preferred).
