Network Support Technician-Journeyman
The Network Support Technician-Journeyman provides Tier II operational support for the AGUN program to maintain the Army's global wide area network and security infrastructure. This role involves managing 24x7x365 operations, resolving service tickets within JIRA Service Desk, implementing approved configuration changes, and performing legacy environment discovery to support network modernization. The position requires troubleshooting complex issues across geographically dispersed environments while ensuring performance and security. Key technical requirements include experience with Cisco SD-WAN, Software Defined Networking, VMware virtualization, and Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Candidates must utilize tools such as InfoVista, Cisco DNA Center, Prime, Juniper Networks, Palo Alto Networks, and Dell Networking. Proficiency in protocols like BGP, IPSec VPNs, and Layer 2/3 routing is essential. Additional technologies include NetFlow, Grafana, Prometheus, and NetSecOps tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Puppet to optimize enterprise network infrastructure.
Support 24x7x365 AGUN operations and provide status updates to the Global Cyber Center.
Execute standard network policy changes, remediation activities, and pre-approved operational workflows.
Manage, triage, and track service tickets within JIRA and other ITSM platforms.
Provide Tier II operational support for the Army's global network infrastructure.
Analyze network performance and identify optimization strategies to improve capacity and reliability.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues across geographically dispersed enterprise environments.
Support network migration, integration, and modernization initiatives for legacy systems.
What we're looking for
Must possess a current active Secret clearance.
Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of experience, or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience (additional experience may substitute for a degree).
Active DoD IAT Level II certification (e.g., Security+) or higher is required prior to start date.
Demonstrated experience supporting Cisco SD-WAN environments and knowledge of Software Defined Networking concepts.
Experience with virtualization technologies, Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments, and InfoVista network performance management tools.
Experience working with at least two of the following: Cisco DNA Center/Prime, Juniper Networks, Palo Alto Networks, Dell Networking, Junos Space, or AppGate.
Strong understanding of networking protocols including BGP, TCP/UDP, IPSec VPNs, Layer 2/3 Routing, and Firewalls.
Preferred qualifications include CCNP certification, Linux shell scripting, GitLab, NetSecOps tools (Salt, Git, Ansible, Terraform, Puppet), and experience with NetFlow or Grafana.
