Mill Machinist As a Mill Machinist for the Precision Structures & Optics team, you will join a cross-functional group manufacturing Beryllium products for high-performance sensing systems used in aerospace, defense, and nuclear industries. You will be responsible for setting up and operating CNC machines to produce precision parts with tight tolerances and complex geometries. Your daily work involves selecting and installing cutting tools and fixtures, loading programs into machines, and performing necessary G-Code edits. You must interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and GD&T while managing material specifications and critical dimensions. To ensure production efficiency, you will recommend tooling improvements and collaborate with engineers and quality inspectors to troubleshoot machining issues. The role requires technical proficiency in CNC operations, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to high craftsmanship when manufacturing components hardened for demanding battlefield environments.

What you'll do

  • Set up and operate CNC machines to produce precision parts.
  • Select and install appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and machine attachments.
  • Load programs into CNC machines and perform necessary G-Code edits.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and GD&T.
  • Identify critical dimensions, material specifications, and tolerances for complex geometries.
  • Recommend tooling and programming improvements to increase efficiency and reduce scrap.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve machining issues in a quick and effective manner.

What we're looking for

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Technical certificate or 2 years of experience or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to work from blueprints, advanced drawings, process sheets, and sketches to perform machining operations with precision (preferred).
  • Experience in the manufacture of tight tolerance, complex geometry precision products, particularly within an aerospace or medical component machine shop (preferred).
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly (preferred).
  • Ability to find safe, effective, and economical ways to improve productivity (preferred).
  • Identification of opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation (preferred).
