TL;DR · Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Manufacturing Automation Engineer, Supply Chain Org is a hands-on role focused on designing, integrating, qualifying, and supporting automation systems to improve manufacturing quality, yield, throughput, safety, and cost performance. The engineer works with cross-functional teams and external integrators to develop automation concepts, equipment specifications, and layouts for both new and existing products. Day-to-day responsibilities include troubleshooting robotics, machine vision, automated inspection, conveyance, and material handling systems while performing root-cause analysis and implementing continuous improvement via Lean and Six Sigma methodologies. The role requires expertise in PLC-based control systems, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, actuators, motion systems, and manufacturing data systems like MES or ERP interfaces. This position solves critical production challenges by ensuring reliable automation infrastructure is deployed during new product introductions and high-volume manufacturing scale-ups to maintain consistent operational excellence across the supply chain.

What you'll do

  • Design and integrate automation systems including robotics, machine vision, conveyance, and material handling.
  • Develop equipment specifications, layouts, and functional requirements for manufacturing applications.
  • Execute equipment qualification, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and site acceptance testing (SAT).
  • Perform root-cause analysis to troubleshoot automation failures and production interruptions.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance metrics such as uptime, cycle time, yield, and throughput.
  • Implement Lean and Six Sigma tools to improve manufacturing quality and labor efficiency.
  • Support new product introduction by evaluating automation readiness and executing implementation plans.
  • Create technical documentation for operating procedures, training materials, and preventive maintenance requirements.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Controls, Manufacturing, Industrial, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing automation, industrial automation, controls, robotics, or related engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting automated equipment from concept and design through commissioning, qualification, and production support.
  • Hands-on knowledge of industrial robotics, machine vision, automated inspection, conveyance, and material handling systems.
  • Experience with PLC-based control systems, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, actuators, motion systems, and machine safety.
  • Experience with FAT/SAT, commissioning, performance qualification, troubleshooting, and structured root-cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in English for reading, writing, and speaking.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical, operational, and supplier stakeholders while managing multiple priorities.
