The Lead Principal Engineer - MK48 joins the Torpedo Systems Group to serve as a senior technical authority for complex electronic systems. This role involves defining, developing, and evaluating hardware architectures that incorporate digital, analog, power-electronics, and mechanical elements. You will translate system requirements into robust hardware designs, lead multidisciplinary teams through integration and qualification, and perform root-cause analysis on fielded-system issues. Key technical competencies include experience with high-performance embedded processors, FPGAs, SoCs, and high-speed digital interfaces. You will utilize tools such as Siemens EDA/Mentor Graphics, OrCAD, PSpice, and LTspice to manage signal integrity and electromagnetic compatibility. The work focuses on developing mission-critical electronic systems for undersea, naval, and defense applications, ensuring high-reliability performance in constrained mechanical environments.
Define, develop, and evaluate system and hardware architectures incorporating digital, analog, power-electronics, and mechanical elements.
Translate system requirements into robust hardware requirements, interfaces, and design solutions.
Provide technical leadership for complex circuit design, modeling, simulation, integration, verification, and qualification activities.
Lead design reviews, architecture assessments, failure reviews, trade studies, and technical investigations.
Perform root-cause analysis of development and production issues to develop and implement corrective actions.
Evaluate embedded processors, FPGAs, and emerging technologies for current and future applications.
Identify technical risks and develop effective mitigation strategies for performance, cost, and schedule impacts.
Communicate technical findings, risks, and decisions to engineering leadership, customers, and suppliers.
What we're looking for
U.S. citizenship is required.
A Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred but must be obtainable.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, Technology, or Mathematics field.
10+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 8 years of job-related experience.
Extensive experience designing, integrating, and troubleshooting complex electronic systems involving analog, digital, power-electronics, and mechanical interfaces.
Experience with high-performance embedded processors, FPGA or SoC based systems, and high-speed digital interfaces (serial interfaces at 5 Gbps or greater preferred).
Experience with DC/DC and DC/AC power conversion, power distribution, and power-system design.
Experience developing electronic systems for undersea, naval, defense, aerospace, or other high-reliability applications.
