Lead Principal Engineer - MK48 serves as a senior technical authority within the Torpedo Systems Group, focusing on complex electronic systems for undersea and naval applications. You will define, develop, and evaluate system and hardware architectures that integrate digital, analog, power-electronics, and mechanical elements. Daily responsibilities include translating requirements into robust designs, leading multidisciplinary teams through integration and verification, performing root-cause analysis, and managing technical risks. The role requires expertise in high-performance embedded processors, FPGAs, SoC systems, memory devices, and high-speed digital interfaces. You will utilize tools such as Siemens EDA/Mentor Graphics, OrCAD, PSpice, and LTspice while applying knowledge of signal integrity, power integrity, and electromagnetic compatibility. This position addresses critical engineering challenges in the defense sector by ensuring hardware reliability, cybersecurity compliance, and performance for mission-critical torpedo systems.

What you'll do

  • Define, develop, and evaluate system and hardware architectures incorporating digital, analog, power-electronics, and mechanical elements.
  • Translate complex system requirements into robust hardware requirements, interfaces, and design solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership for circuit design, modeling, simulation, integration, verification, and qualification activities.
  • Lead design reviews, architecture assessments, failure reviews, trade studies, and technical investigations.
  • Perform root-cause analysis of development and fielded issues to implement corrective actions and design improvements.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies regarding performance, cost, schedule, and program impacts.
  • Evaluate embedded processors, FPGAs, and high-speed digital interfaces for current and future applications.
  • Support product roadmaps, technology-insertion strategies, and the integration of artificial intelligence into engineering analysis.

What we're looking for

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • A Department of Defense Secret security clearance is preferred but must be obtainable within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related Science, Engineering, Technology, or Mathematics field.
  • 10 years of job-related experience or a Master's degree plus 8 years of job-related experience.
  • Extensive experience designing and troubleshooting complex electronic systems with analog, digital, power-electronics, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Experience with high-performance embedded processors, FPGA/SoC based systems, and high-speed digital interfaces (5 Gbps or greater preferred).
  • Proficiency in developing and reviewing schematics, PCB layouts, bills of material, and interface documentation.
  • Familiarity with Earned Value Management and Control Account Management principles is a plus.
