Lead Platform Engineer

What you'll do

• Architect and implement the State Machine to manage authoritative state and legal transitions.
• Design and build the Transactional Outbox to ensure exactly-once intent emission for downstream consumers.
• Write production code for reliability tooling, test automation, and platform infrastructure improvements.
• Build and maintain automated testing frameworks for unit, integration, end-to-end, and performance testing.
• Own the platform's logging, metrics, distributed tracing, alerting, and monitoring strategy.
• Define and enforce patterns for exception handling, fault tolerance, and recovery across distributed services.
• Evaluate platform behavior under load to improve performance, throughput, and cost efficiency.
• Manage and mentor a team of engineers and contractors while conducting regular code reviews.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
• 8+ years of full stack software engineering experience.
• 1–2 years of experience leading platform reliability, quality engineering, site reliability, or production operations initiatives.
• Proficiency in building production software using Java, Python, Node.js, or TypeScript.
• Hands-on experience designing and implementing automated testing frameworks for integration, end-to-end, and load testing.
• Strong understanding of modern observability practices including structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing, and alerting.
• Experience designing reliability patterns for distributed systems such as fault tolerance, retries, and failure recovery.
• Experience operating cloud-native applications on Kubernetes and container-based platforms.
• Demonstrated ability to lead an engineering pod and manage contractor resources as an active individual contributor.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools like Claude or GitHub Copilot.
• Experience with Kubernetes platform operations and reliability engineering in large-scale distributed environments (preferred).
• Experience with Kafka and event-driven architectures (preferred).
• Familiarity with SRE principles, SLOs, SLIs, and incident management (preferred).
• Experience with performance testing, chaos engineering, or resiliency validation programs (preferred).
• Experience with Azure DevOps pipelines and CI/CD automation (preferred).
• Background in healthcare, insurance, or other regulated industries (preferred).
