As a Java Lead Software Engineer - Kafka, you will join the Commercial & Investment Bank - Payment Platform team as a core technical contributor. You will lead and inspire a team of engineers while overseeing technical design, architecture, and implementation to ensure high-quality, scalable solutions for complex applications. Your daily responsibilities include developing creative software solutions, troubleshooting technical problems, gathering data for system improvements, and leading evaluation sessions with external vendors. You will drive the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices and lead communities of practice regarding emerging technologies. The role requires expertise in Java, REST, microservices, Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Kafka streaming, and cloud infrastructure. You will also utilize tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and various relational or NoSQL databases to build event-driven systems within a secure, stable, and scalable payment platform environment.
Design, develop, and troubleshoot creative software solutions for complex technical problems.
Lead and mentor a team of entry-level to mid-level software engineers.
Oversee technical architecture and design artifacts to ensure scalable, high-quality systems.
Analyze large datasets to create visualizations and reports for system improvement.
Identify and automate the remediation of recurring issues to improve operational stability.
Evaluate external vendors and internal technologies to determine architectural fit and applicability.
Lead communities of practice to promote the adoption of leading-edge technologies.
Drive team adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices and validation standards.
What we're looking for
Formal training or certification on Software Engineering concepts and 8+ years of applied experience.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools with a focus on validation for correctness, performance, and security.
Strong understanding of responsible AI use in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity and secure handling of inputs/outputs.
Hands-on practical experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
Proficiency in all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle, including advanced knowledge of CI/CD, Application Resiliency, and Security.
Proficiency in Java, REST, and microservices, with experience building event-driven microservices and Kafka streaming.
Experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and public or private cloud infrastructure.
Knowledge of Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/ECS), Relational/NoSQL databases, and Python for AI (preferred).
