As a Java Backend Lead Software Engineer Kafka AWS, you will join an agile team within Consumer and Community Banking to build and deliver secure, scalable technology products. You will serve as a core technical contributor, designing and developing high-quality production code while troubleshooting complex technical problems. Your daily responsibilities include leading architectural decisions, conducting code reviews, and driving the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices. You will utilize Java, Springboot, Node.js, and SQL or NoSQL databases to build microservices and RESTful APIs. The role requires expertise in AWS cloud platforms, distributed systems, and Kafka-based event streaming for high-throughput environments. You will also manage operational stability through monitoring and incident response while leading communities of practice to implement leading-edge technologies.

What you'll do

Develop secure, high-quality production code and perform code reviews and debugging for other team members.
Design and deliver Kafka-based event streaming platforms and services in high-throughput environments.
Drive the adoption of enterprise-authorized AI-assisted engineering practices to improve code quality and delivery speed.
Lead technical direction by making architecture decisions, writing design documents, and aligning stakeholders.
Identify and automate the remediation of recurring issues to improve the operational stability of software systems.
Lead evaluation sessions with external vendors and internal teams to assess architectural designs and technical credentials.
Improve system operability by managing SLOs, SLAs, monitoring, and incident response for streaming systems.
Lead communities of practice to promote the use of leading-edge technologies across Software Engineering.

What we're looking for

Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 5+ years of applied experience.
Hands-on experience delivering system design, application development, testing, and operational stability.
Proficiency in back-end technologies like Java, Springboot, or Node.js to build microservices-based applications.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), distributed systems, RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and JSON.
Hands-on experience designing and building scalable applications using SQL and NoSQL databases.
Experience leading Kafka-based event streaming platforms in high-throughput environments with deep knowledge of event-driven architecture.
Demonstrated experience leading the use of approved AI-assisted software development tools and understanding responsible AI use.
Proven ability to lead technical direction, write design docs, and improve operability for streaming systems.
AWS certification (preferred).
Experience building and operating high-volume data processing pipelines using Apache Spark or Apache Flink (preferred).
