You will serve as a key advocate for user-centered design, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize performance, safety, and usability from initial concept through operational deployment. Daily responsibilities include conducting task analyses, creating user personas, performing heuristic evaluations of interfaces, and executing human-in-the-loop evaluations. You will also perform ergonomic assessments, identify safety hazards, and develop training aids while ensuring compliance with MIL-STD-1472, MIL-HDBK-46855, and other defense standards. The role requires expertise in research methodologies like A/B testing and think aloud protocols to solve complex problems regarding situational awareness, cognitive workload, and physical comfort within the domain of advanced defense systems and command and control platforms.

What you'll do

  • Conduct task analyses, create user workflows, and develop personas to define required skills for mission success.
  • Plan, execute, and report on usability testing and human-in-the-loop evaluations throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Perform heuristic analyses of hardware and software interfaces to optimize user experience and safety.
  • Execute human performance testing to assess cognitive workload, situational awareness, and physical fatigue.
  • Conduct ergonomic and anthropometric assessments to ensure system accessibility and maintainability.
  • Identify safety hazards for operators and develop mitigation strategies in coordination with engineering teams.
  • Author Human Systems Integration documentation and ensure compliance with MIL-STD-1472 and other defense standards.
  • Integrate human factors requirements into system design specifications and technical documentation.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 5 years experience as a Human Factors Engineer, Ergonomics Engineer, Industrial Engineer, or Test Engineer.
  • M.S. degree in Human Factors Psychology, Industrial Engineering, Applied Experimental Psychology, I/O Psychology, Systems Engineering, or an equivalent technical discipline.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-1472, MIL-STD-46855, and MIL-STD-882 standards.
  • Experience conducting task analyses, workflow analyses, user research, and ethnographic observation.
  • Experience implementing multiple research methodologies including A/B testing, think aloud protocols, and card sorting.
  • Experience planning, conducting, and reporting qualitative and quantitative user testing.
  • Eligibility to pursue a U.S. security clearance.
