TL;DR · Hardware Engineer, Electronics Packaging & Vehicle Integration

Hardware Engineer - Electronics Packaging & Vehicle Integration will join the DoorDash Labs team to lead the mechanical architecture, design, and delivery of electromechanical systems for next-generation autonomous delivery vehicles. This role focuses on developing robust packaging solutions for compute, electrical, communications, and sensor hardware designed to operate reliably in demanding real-world fleet environments. You will own designs from concept through launch, including electronic enclosures, housings, mounting systems, seals, and connector interfaces. Key responsibilities include creating production-quality 3D CAD models, performing GD&T development, conducting tolerance stack-ups, and leading DFx activities with manufacturing partners. The role requires expertise in mechanical design for components like castings, injection moldings, and stampings. Candidates should be proficient in NX or SolidWorks/CATIA and possess experience with ruggedized hardware, robotics, or automotive systems to solve complex packaging tradeoffs in the autonomous delivery space.

What you'll do

  • Design and release mechanical architectures for electronic enclosures, housings, and vehicle integration systems.
  • Develop robust packaging solutions for compute, electrical, communication, and sensor hardware in harsh environments.
  • Create production-quality 3D CAD models and technical drawings for castings, moldings, stampings, and mounting interfaces.
  • Perform engineering analyses including GD&T development, tolerance stack-ups, and structural calculations to validate design intent.
  • Lead DFx activities to ensure products are manufacturable, serviceable, and cost-effective for large-scale production.
  • Execute test plans, proof-of-concept builds, and root-cause investigations to resolve technical risks and hardware issues.
  • Manage supplier engagements and coordinate with cross-functional teams to resolve packaging trade-offs during the product lifecycle.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience designing electromechanical products, electronics packaging, vehicle systems, robotics, automotive systems, or other ruggedized hardware.
  • Experience packaging compute, electrical, communications, sensor, or power-electronics hardware into robust assemblies and enclosures.
  • Proficiency in manufacturing processes including die castings, injection moldings, stampings, extrusions, machined parts, seals, and welded assemblies.
  • Expertise in integrating PCBAs, connectors, wire harnesses, cooling solutions, and serviceable electrical interfaces into electromechanical systems.
  • Strong command of GD&T, tolerance analysis, stack-ups, datum strategy, and interface definition for complex assemblies.
  • Extensive CAD experience with NX (preferred), SolidWorks, or CATIA to create robust models and detailed drawings.
  • Experience with commercial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or other high-duty-cycle fleet products (preferred).
