Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, Closures

What you'll do

• Own the architecture, design, and execution of closure systems for autonomous delivery vehicles.
• Design robust mechanisms including hinges, latches, actuators, linkages, and counterbalance systems.
• Ensure closure systems meet durability, cost, and manufacturability requirements for high-volume production.
• Create designs optimized for manufacturing processes like sheet metal stamping, castings, injection molding, and welding.
• Perform tolerance analysis, stack-up management, and GD&T to ensure reliable mechanical interfaces.
• Conduct structural design, fatigue analysis, and environmental sealing for products used in outdoor environments.
• Use CAD tools to create complex assemblies with robust parametric models.
• Validate engineering concepts using simulation tools such as FEA, kinematic analysis, MATLAB, or Python.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 6+ years of experience designing automotive body, closure, or mechanism systems from concept through production.
• Experience with commercial vehicles, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or high-duty-cycle products is preferred.
• Deep expertise in closure mechanisms including hinges, latches, actuators, linkages, counterbalance systems, and environmental sealing.
• Proficiency in designing for high-volume manufacturing using sheet metal stamping, castings, injection molding, extrusions, and welded assemblies.
• Extensive CAD experience with NX (preferred), SolidWorks, or CATIA to design complex assemblies with robust parametric models.
• Skilled in tolerance analysis, stack-up management, GD&T, and designing robust interfaces between mechanical systems.
• Strong understanding of structural design, fatigue, durability, corrosion prevention, and use of simulation tools like FEA or MATLAB.
