As a GPU Kernel & Firmware Engineer within the Graphics, Games, & ML organization, you will join the GPU Kernel/Firmware team to develop low-level software powering graphics, machine learning, and compute experiences across the entire product lineup. You will be responsible for designing and building kernel and firmware drivers that connect the operating system to the GPU. Your daily work involves developing features for memory management, power management, asynchronous command processing, and error concealment to ensure reliable, high-performance performance for games and image processing. This role requires expert knowledge of computer system architecture and proficiency in C/C++. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate these components into the graphics platform, ultimately maximizing compute potential on iOS and macOS while driving hardware and software roadmap decisions specifically for machine learning acceleration.

What you'll do

  • Design and build kernel and firmware drivers for the GPU.
  • Develop memory management features for GPU kernel and firmware components.
  • Implement power management capabilities across the entire GPU software stack.
  • Build asynchronous command processing systems for various GPU workloads.
  • Design error concealment mechanisms to improve driver reliability.
  • Drive hardware and software roadmap decisions specifically for ML acceleration.
  • Integrate kernel and firmware into the graphics platform to maximize performance on iOS and macOS.

What we're looking for

  • 5 plus years of strong programming skills in C/C++.
  • Solid understanding of computer system architecture.
  • Experience with driver development or operating system concepts.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred).
  • Experience with power management and control theory (preferred).
  • Experience with GPU architecture or graphics/compute driver development (preferred).
