TL;DR · Head, Architecture

Global Head, Architecture joins the Enterprise Solutions Technology division to shape the technology direction of a complex, regulated financial-services estate. This hands-on principal engineer and architect role involves partnering with leadership to translate high-level strategy into actionable designs for products involving lending, regulatory compliance, global markets, and software business units. The successful candidate will oversee multi-year roadmaps, establish reference architectures, and manage design standards across multiple teams while ensuring operational resilience and regulatory alignment. Key technical competencies include designing distributed, event-driven, and data-intensive systems using cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP. Expertise is required in managing AI-enabled systems, semantic data models, and knowledge graphs within highly regulated environments. The role focuses on solving complex problems in capital markets infrastructure, securities processing, and counterparty lifecycle management while ensuring all technical solutions remain scalable, secure, and auditable.

What you'll do

  • Shape and refine the technology strategy for a complex, regulated financial services estate.
  • Translate high-level strategies into practical engineering designs that are buildable and operationally sound.
  • Act as the primary engineering authority to guide architecture, design, and delivery decisions across multiple teams.
  • Intervene in high-risk initiatives and lead technical recovery efforts during major incidents.
  • Establish and govern reference architectures, design standards, and architectural guardrails for scalable systems.
  • Design distributed, event-driven, and data-intensive systems that meet strict regulatory and security requirements.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects through hands-on problem solving and technical guidance.
  • Communicate complex technical trade-offs and design choices to clients and senior stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • Must have 25+ years of technology leadership experience in tier-1 banking, capital markets, or other highly regulated environments.
  • Must possess hands-on engineering expertise with the ability to code and engage deeply with technical teams.
  • Must have proven expertise in enterprise architecture and technology strategy for complex financial services platforms.
  • Must have technical depth in distributed, event-driven, data-intensive systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Must possess deep domain knowledge of financial services, including banking operations, reporting, and AI/analytics in production.
  • Must be able to influence others and drive engineering excellence through credibility rather than formal authority (preferred).
  • Must have excellent communication skills to explain complex technical concepts to executives, clients, and regulators (preferred).
  • Must possess a coaching and mentoring mindset to raise the capability of senior engineers and architects (preferred).
  • Must have an indefinite right to work in the United States.
