As a Fiber Delivery Engineer on the Cloud Interconnection + Acquisitions team, you will contribute to building world-class network infrastructure involving Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits. You will provide technical expertise for commercial teams regarding diversity, identification, and internal routing while performing frontline project management with external suppliers. Your daily responsibilities include tracking construction schedules, managing risks using market intelligence, conducting quality assurance inspections, and producing as-build documentation and technical schematics. To succeed, you should possess experience in engineering or technical program management, data analysis, and outside plant construction. You will utilize AutoCAD or GIS solutions to manage complex network capacity delivery matters. This role focuses on delivering core infrastructure for essential online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform.
Provide technical expertise and drawings for fiber diversity, identification, and internal routing to termination points.
Manage construction schedules with external suppliers including civil works, permitting, and cable overpulls.
Produce status reports and project documentation for cross-functional teams and leadership.
Verify that fiber characterization results meet Microsoft Core Fiber Standards.
Create as-built documentation and technical schematics for network infrastructure.
Identify risks and develop mitigation options using market intelligence.
Conduct remote or on-site quality assurance inspections during the delivery phase.
Manage remediation activities with suppliers and third-party fiber characterization teams.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development (or equivalent).
At least 1 year of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development (preferred).
2+ years of experience with AutoCAD or GIS solutions (preferred).
1+ year of experience in outside plant construction and engineering with a major telecommunication provider (preferred).
1+ year of experience with ISP/OSP construction, telecom architecture, and optical transport (preferred).
1+ year of experience developing comprehensive project plans including Gantt charts and timelines (preferred).
