As an Outside Plant Telecom Engineer, you will join the Cloud Operations & Innovation team to design and engineer outside plant routing for metro and long-haul connectivity requirements. You will collaborate with sourcing teams, delivery teams, and fiber providers to ensure diversity standards are met while building infrastructure involving Metro Dark Fiber, Long-Haul Fiber, subsea, and Lit Wave circuits. Your daily responsibilities include performing OSP optical design, planning, and engineering for new and existing regions; approving vendor designs; conducting site walks; managing permitting; and performing quality assurance inspections. You will analyze fiber test results and maintain accurate cable records. The role requires proficiency in CAD and GIS design and mapping tools, as well as the ability to interpret blueprints and road prints to identify conflicts with existing facilities while ensuring infrastructure meets technical standards for cloud services.
Design and engineer outside plant optical routing for metro and long-haul connectivity requirements.
Approve vendor designs and perform quality assurance inspections of infrastructure projects.
Conduct site walks and manage permitting processes for network construction.
Analyze fiber test results for metro, regional fabric, and long-haul networks to ensure they meet standards.
Interpret highway/road prints to identify conflicts with existing facilities and select appropriate routing.
Maintain accurate cable records and technical documentation for the network infrastructure.
Ensure all optical designs comply with Microsoft and industry standards.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development (or equivalent experience).
2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
Ability to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check.
8+ years of experience in Outside Plant Telecom Engineering (preferred).
5+ years designing fiber and OSP, including cable sizing, counts, and selecting construction methods (preferred).
Proficiency in CAD and GIS design and mapping tools (preferred).
Ability to read/interpret engineering plans and blueprints while maintaining technical documentation (preferred).
