The Director, Software Engineering joins the Restaurant Technology organization to lead the POS Modernization initiative. This leadership role involves defining the architecture, engineering strategy, and technical vision for a next-generation, cloud-connected Point-of-Sale platform intended for global markets. The individual will build and lead high-performing teams of internal engineers, architects, and external partners to transform legacy capabilities into a scalable, resilient, and secure system. Key responsibilities include establishing engineering standards, managing budgets and vendor relationships, and overseeing technology governance and security compliance. The role requires expertise in cloud-native technologies, microservices architectures, APIs, and event-driven systems. This position solves the critical business problem of modernizing mission-critical restaurant operations to improve crew experiences and support global business growth through a unified technology platform.
Lead architecture reviews and technical design decisions to ensure a resilient, extensible global POS platform.
Build and develop high-performing engineering teams including internal engineers, architects, and external delivery partners.
Establish and enforce engineering standards for modularity, maintainability, scalability, and operational excellence.
Define and uphold quality standards for reliability, performance, security, and program-wide acceptance criteria.
Own technology governance, security compliance, data integrity, and risk management practices across the platform.
Drive the execution of modernization initiatives to transform legacy capabilities into a cloud-connected platform.
Manage product investments, budgets, vendor relationships, and resource planning to deliver measurable business value.
Serve as a senior technology advisor to influence enterprise strategy across Restaurant Technology and Operations.
What we're looking for
10+ years of progressive software engineering experience in software development, platform architecture, distributed systems, and large-scale enterprise application delivery.
7+ years of experience leading high-performing engineering organizations in Agile environments, including managing managers, architects, engineers, and external partners.
Proven experience defining and executing technology strategies, modernization initiatives, and architectural roadmaps for mission-critical platforms.
Strong expertise in software architecture, cloud-native technologies, scalability, resiliency, security, performance optimization, and operational excellence.
Experience partnering with Product Management, Architecture, Security, Data & Analytics, Operations, and business stakeholders in complex global matrix organizations.
Proven ability to build, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams while fostering a culture of innovation and accountability.
Experience leading complex software implementations, deployments, and product rollouts across multiple regions and markets.
Strong business and financial acumen, including experience managing engineering budgets, vendor partnerships, technology investments, and resource planning.
Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, GCP, or AWS), microservices, APIs, and event-driven systems (preferred).
Experience managing globally distributed teams and strategic vendor relationships (preferred).
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (preferred).
