Director, Software Engineering

What you'll do

• Define the technical roadmap, architecture decisions, and end-to-end delivery strategy for the SDB AI team.
• Lead and develop a team of AI engineers and data scientists by setting goals and managing performance.
• Translate business priorities from stakeholders into actionable technical strategies and measurable outcomes.
• Guide technical decisions regarding agent context, model selection, tool design, and evaluation.
• Develop and deliver production AI capabilities for database operations, including proactive detection and automation.
• Represent the team in architecture forums to resolve cross-team dependencies and communicate progress to leadership.
• Build on existing internal AI capabilities while developing specialized tools for database engineering.

What we're looking for

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 5+ years leading and developing engineering teams that deliver complex production systems.
• Proven track record of scaling high-performing, diverse engineering teams and delivering production AI systems.
• Deep expertise in AI, including machine learning and agentic systems.
• Strong technical judgment in system design, reliability, and operational risk.
• Experience with large-scale databases, distributed systems, public cloud, and multi-tenant platforms.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop talent through direct feedback and coaching.
• A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
