Director, Core Infrastructure Engineering leads the engineering organization within the OCI Networking Data Plane team, specifically focusing on fleet management and workload orchestration. This role is responsible for building and managing the foundational platform used to deploy, operate, and scale networking services across global infrastructure. Key responsibilities include defining technical strategy, overseeing lifecycle management, automating deployment processes, and ensuring high availability through robust system design. The candidate will manage large-scale distributed systems while utilizing modern software engineering practices, CI/CD pipelines, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to drive operational excellence. Required expertise includes deep knowledge of distributed systems, cloud platforms, infrastructure orchestration, and technical leadership. This role solves critical problems regarding capacity expansion, workload placement, and the creation of standardized platform capabilities to simplify complex networking operations at a global scale.
Lead the engineering organization responsible for fleet management and workload orchestration within the OCI Networking Data Plane.
Define and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for managing the lifecycle of OCI Networking fleets.
Build standardized platform capabilities to simplify how networking services are deployed, operated, and scaled across the cloud infrastructure.
Drive engineering effectiveness through modern practices including automation, AI-enabled engineering, CI/CD, and developer tooling.
Provide technical leadership by guiding architecture, establishing standards, and mentoring engineering managers and technical leaders.
Ensure high availability and reliability of platform services through robust telemetry, automated failover, and proactive monitoring.
Oversee the implementation of security measures, data encryption, and compliance with industry standards for multi-tenant environments.
Manage infrastructure as code (IaC) and automate change management processes for patching and system updates.
What we're looking for
Must have 12 years of software development experience, or a relevant degree combined with 4 to 8 years of experience depending on the level of education.
Must have at least 4 years of professional experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google, or Oracle Cloud.
Must have 8 years of experience working in testing and automation at the system level.
Must have at least 2 years of experience delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems.
Must possess skills in distributed systems and technical leadership.
Experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems or cloud infrastructure is preferred.
A BS, MS, or PhD in a technical field like Computer Science or Engineering is preferred (or equivalent practical experience).
Strong computer science fundamentals including concurrency, software architecture, and system design are preferred.
