The Principal Core Infrastructure Engineer joins the Virtual Networking Data Plane organization to provide technical leadership for Card Management. This critical platform supports SmartNIC and DPU provisioning, lifecycle management, security, observability, and operational readiness. The engineer will lead the architecture and technical strategy to design and deliver reliable, scalable services for the SmartNIC/DPU fleet. Day-to-day responsibilities include making complex architectural decisions, improving automation and telemetry, and mitigating platform risks. The role requires deep expertise in Linux, systems software, networking, and large-scale distributed systems. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in cloud infrastructure, hardware/software integration, and programmable networking hardware. This position solves the technical challenge of providing predictable performance and secure isolation for Virtual Cloud Network data plane services using industry-leading programmable hardware.

What you'll do

Lead the architecture and technical strategy for Card Management, including provisioning, lifecycle management, and security.
Design and deliver reliable, scalable services for SmartNIC/DPU fleet management within OCI.
Make complex technical decisions regarding card provisioning, platform security, and system reliability.
Improve automation, telemetry, diagnosability, and operational processes for cloud infrastructure.
Identify and mitigate platform reliability, security, and operational risks.
Partner with hardware and software teams to define requirements and validate new platform designs.
Participate in operational readiness reviews and perform root-cause analysis for incident management.

What we're looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
8+ years of experience in systems, platform, cloud infrastructure, networking, or distributed-systems engineering.
Strong experience with Linux, systems software, networking, automation, and large-scale service operations.
Experience designing and operating highly available, secure, and scalable infrastructure platforms.
Demonstrated ability to lead architecture and delivery across multiple engineering organizations.
Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills for complex hardware/software and distributed-system issues.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with SmartNICs, DPUs, programmable networking hardware, or NIC firmware/platform software (preferred).
