TL;DR · Director, Clover Engineering, Merchant Onboarding & Growth

JOB TITLE: Director, Clover Engineering – Merchant Onboarding & Growth The Director, Clover Engineering – Merchant Onboarding & Growth leads globally distributed engineering teams to own the technology behind how merchants discover, onboard, activate, and grow with Clover. This leader will manage onshore and offshore teams to transform Clover.com and the onboarding platform into a unified, self-service growth engine. Key responsibilities include driving an AI-first approach to the software development lifecycle, introducing agentic automation for workflows like test generation and code migration, and building product-led growth foundations such as A/B testing and event tracking. The role requires expertise in modern web and API architectures, microservices, cloud platforms, and headless CMS. The position solves the business problem of reducing merchant friction and manual intervention during the application, underwriting, and provisioning journeys within the fintech and payments domain.

What you'll do

  • Lead and develop global engineering teams across onshore and offshore locations.
  • Manage the offshore operating model to ensure consistent quality, velocity, and on-call coverage.
  • Drive AI-assisted development across the software development lifecycle to improve productivity and quality.
  • Implement agentic automation for engineering tasks like test generation, code migration, and defect triage.
  • Build product-led growth foundations including event tracking, A/B testing, and personalization.
  • Own the merchant onboarding experience to reduce drop-offs and manual intervention.
  • Modernize the digital platform using a modular, headless CMS architecture and reusable design systems.
  • Establish shared KPIs and end-to-end attribution for merchant discovery, activation, and lifetime value.

What we're looking for

  • 12+ years of experience in software engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience leading engineering managers or multi-team organizations.
  • Proven experience leading offshore or globally distributed engineering teams with strong delivery outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders across multiple locations and time zones using asynchronous communication.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI in the SDLC with measurable gains in productivity and quality.
  • Experience introducing agentic approaches to automation, including designing and scaling agent-based workflows.
  • Proven experience building or scaling product-led growth capabilities like experimentation platforms and funnel instrumentation.
  • Deep experience with merchant or customer onboarding in fintech, payments, SaaS, or marketplaces.
  • Strong technical depth in modern web and API architectures, microservices, cloud platforms, and headless CMS.
  • Experience in payments, POS, or SMB SaaS (preferred).
  • Familiarity with customer data platforms, personalization engines, and SEO/AEO/GEO (preferred).
  • Experience with global, multi-region digital experiences and design systems (preferred).
  • Experience building AI-assisted experiences for merchant guidance and onboarding (preferred).
  • Experience establishing AI governance and responsible-use practices for engineering teams (preferred).
