Database Advisor

What you'll do

• Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of enterprise database solutions across relational and NoSQL environments.
• Perform root cause analysis for performance issues, outages, and recurring system problems.
• Manage large-scale database migrations, upgrades, and modernization efforts with a focus on minimal business disruption.
• Design and optimize database structures, including data models, schemas, queries, and indexing strategies.
• Automate database operations and maintenance using Python, Bash, or Go scripting.
• Implement database observability, monitoring, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and performance.
• Manage cloud infrastructure costs through capacity planning, rightsizing, and resource optimization.
• Mentor and coach junior DBAs and technical team members on database best practices.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent formal training in computer science, engineering, information systems, or a related field.
• At least five years of work experience in an information technology or engineering environment.
• Extensive experience in database administration, design, implementation, and performance optimization for enterprise environments.
• Deep expertise with PostgreSQL features, including vacuum tuning and performance optimization; experience with Google AlloyDB is preferred.
• Proficiency in provisioning and managing cloud infrastructure using Terraform and Google Cloud services like Cloud SQL, Spanner, and AlloyDB.
• Experience executing minimal-downtime migrations from legacy platforms (Oracle/SQL Server) to cloud-native PostgreSQL or AlloyDB environments.
• Proficiency with Python, Bash, or Go for automation and experience with CI/CD tools like Flyway, Liquibase, or GitLab CI/CD.
• Ability to lead technical teams, mentor junior DBAs, and perform complex root cause analysis for production issues.
