Critical Environments Operating Engineer The Critical Environments Operating Engineer supports a highly secure, mission-critical financial services environment and a disaster recovery data center. This role is responsible for maintaining 100% uptime through the operation, maintenance, and repair of essential building systems while managing vendor activities and providing shift coverage. The successful candidate will perform preventive and reactive maintenance on critical infrastructure including chillers, pumps, cooling towers, VFDs, AHUs, CRACs, CRCUs, UPSs, PDUs, batteries, generators, fuel storage, switchgear, utility feeds, transfer switches, process piping, fire detection, suppression, BAS, and leak detection systems. The role requires technical expertise in electrical, HVAC, or central utility plant operations to manage complex mechanical and electrical equipment. Candidates must be proficient with BAS and CMMS systems while navigating the specific challenges of maintaining high-availability infrastructure within a data center environment.

What you'll do

Maintain 100% uptime for critical infrastructure by operating, maintaining, and repairing electrical and HVAC systems.
Perform daily site walk-throughs to identify hazardous conditions and ensure proper equipment operation.
Execute preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, and emergency response for pumps, fans, valves, motors, and generators.
Manage vendor activities and oversee service contract providers for facility system maintenance.
Monitor building systems via BAS and CMMS platforms while maintaining accurate engineering logs and data sheets.
Coordinate with the Critical Operations Team to manage change requests and incident reporting processes.
Ensure all infrastructure documentation and compliance records meet federal, state, and local regulations.
Provide technical guidance during real-time problem management and emergency situations.

What we're looking for

High school diploma or state equivalent.
Three years of plant building operating experience (data center experience preferred).
Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent (preferred).
Experience in Electrical or HVAC/Refrigeration trades at journeyman level or higher (preferred).
Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs or ability to earn within 90 days of hire.
Technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, or Central Utility Plant) and multi-skilled in others.
Proficiency with BAS and CMMS systems (preferred).
