The CPU Performance Modeling Engineer joins the CPU Architecture team to design high performance, low power CPUs. In this role, you will contribute ideas for advanced CPU performance features, explore them in detail, and model them for productization. Your daily responsibilities include performing self-guided performance simulation studies of design alternatives, analyzing workloads to identify performance bottlenecks, and writing and maintaining sections of the CPU architectural performance model. You will collaborate with RTL and design teams to assess implementation costs and improve the simulation environment. The role requires proficiency in CPU architecture areas like fetch, decode, branch prediction, and caches. Required technical skills include C, C++, and scripting languages like Perl or Python. You will solve complex problems regarding CPU performance, energy efficiency, and scalability.
Analyze workloads to identify performance bottlenecks and opportunities.
Perform self-guided performance simulation studies of various design alternatives.
Write and maintain specific features and sections of the CPU architectural performance model.
Assess the implementation cost of new features in coordination with RTL and design teams.
Identify opportunities for product improvement by collaborating with architecture and RTL teams.
Maintain and improve the simulation environment to increase team productivity.
Contribute ideas for advanced CPU performance features and model them in detail.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Computer Architecture, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
2+ years of CPU Architecture work experience.
2+ years of work experience with programming languages such as C and C++.
Proficiency in CPU architecture areas including fetch, decode, branch prediction, renaming, execute units, SIMD, load/store, MMU, caches, and retire.
Knowledge of OS internals and compiler technology (preferred).
Experience in a performance modeling environment and with common performance benchmarks and workloads (preferred).
