CPU Architecture Performance Engineer (RISC V) joins the CPU Performance Architecture group to design high performance, low power CPUs. The role involves contributing ideas for advanced CPU performance features, exploring them in detail, and modeling them for productization. Key responsibilities include analyzing workloads to identify performance bottlenecks, performing self-guided performance simulation studies of design alternatives, and writing and maintaining sections of the CPU architectural performance model. Required technical skills include proficiency in CPU architecture areas like fetch, decode, branch prediction, and caches, along with C, C++, and scripting languages like Perl or Python. Analyze workloads to identify performance bottlenecks and opportunities.
Perform self-guided performance simulation studies of various design alternatives.
Write and maintain sections of the CPU architectural performance model.
Assess implementation costs for new features with the RTL and design teams.
Identify opportunities for product improvement with the CPU Performance Architecture team.
Maintain and improve the simulation environment to increase team productivity.
Contribute ideas for advanced CPU performance features and model them in detail.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
Proficiency in one or more areas of CPU architecture including fetch, decode, branch prediction, renaming, execute units, SIMD, load/store, MMU, caches, or retire.
Proficiency in C and C++ and scripting languages such as Perl or Python (preferred).
Experience working in a performance modeling environment (preferred).
MS degree in Computer Architecture with 2+ years of practical experience (preferred).
Knowledge of OS internals, compiler technology, and common performance benchmarks (preferred).
