JOB TITLE: Control Systems & Embedded Software Technical Leader, Acacia The Control Systems & Embedded Software Technical Leader joins the Software team to serve as a technical specialist for high-performance optical modules and transceivers. You will design, tune, and optimize real-time closed-loop control algorithms, including PID, motion control, temperature, and optical power stabilization. Daily responsibilities involve developing efficient embedded C/C++ firmware for bare-metal and RTOS platforms to configure and calibrate hardware subsystems. You will work with ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-R cores, implementing state machines, peripheral drivers, and data paths. Key technologies include VxWorks, FreeRTOS, ThreadX, Git, Jira, Perforce, Python, and MATLAB. This role addresses the technical challenge of managing electro-optical interactions and feedback loops within high-speed coherent optical transceivers and pluggable optical interconnects used in hyperscale cloud providers and telecommunications networks.

What you'll do

Design, tune, and optimize real-time closed-loop control algorithms for PID, motion, temperature, and optical power stabilization.
Develop efficient embedded C/C++ firmware to configure and monitor hardware subsystems on ARM Cortex-M and Cortex-R cores.
Implement firmware state machines, low-level peripheral drivers, and high-reliability data and control paths.
Characterize feedback loops and debug electro-optical interactions during new board bring-up with hardware and optics teams.
Own critical firmware features from the initial algorithm simulation phase through to production release.
Develop firmware for bare-metal systems and real-time operating systems like VxWorks, FreeRTOS, or ThreadX.

What we're looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Computer Engineering or a related field.
8+ years of professional experience.
6+ years of low-level embedded C and C++ programming for physical hardware control.
5+ years of development of embedded firmware on bare-metal systems and real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Experience designing, implementing, and tuning real-time control systems like PID or motion/thermal loops on microcontrollers.
Ability to work 100% onsite during the initial one-year onboarding period.
Development of control firmware for optical transceivers, laser controllers, or telecommunications hardware (preferred).
Expertise with schematic reading, board bring-up, and lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers (preferred).
