TL;DR · Business Development Engineer

The Business Development Engineer (BDE), USSOCOM joins the Applications Engineering team to bridge technical radio frequency capabilities with Special Operations Command requirements. This role involves analyzing capability gaps, mapping operational needs to tactical radio solutions, and supporting technical planning for network configurations. You will perform live-on-the-air executions of field trials, conduct competitive benchmarking, and build technical demonstrations for low-signature, resilient, and tactical edge operational needs. Key responsibilities include reviewing RFI/RFP proposals, performing market research for partner integrations, and gathering field feedback to influence product roadmaps. Required skills include experience with Software-Defined Radios, IP-based routing protocols, and RF test equipment like spectrum analyzers. The role addresses the technical challenge of providing vital communications links for defense and public safety agencies in contested, multi-domain, and uncrewed environments.

What you'll do

  • Map USSOCOM operational needs and capability gaps to specific tactical radio solutions.
  • Support technical planning, network configuration, and live execution of field trials and user evaluations.
  • Verify that proposed solution architectures are technically sound using continuous testing and benchmarking data.
  • Build and present technical demonstrations tailored to low-signature and tactical edge operational needs.
  • Provide technical input and review support for RFI and RFP proposal responses.
  • Perform market research to identify potential industry partner integrations and end-to-end network architectures.
  • Engage with technical stakeholders across various USSOCOM programs and component command science leads.
  • Translate field feedback and signature management requirements into product roadmap inputs.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Network Engineering, or a related C5ISR field with 2–5 years of experience in systems engineering, technical business development, or defense technology.
  • High School Diploma/GED with 5+ years of relevant technical or defense experience.
  • Working knowledge of Software-Defined Radios (SDRs), IP-based routing protocols, or tactical communication systems.
  • Basic familiarity with RF test equipment, such as spectrum analyzers and signal generators.
  • Active U.S. Government SECRET clearance or the ability to obtain one within 15 months of hire.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Basic understanding of USSOCOM procurement pathways and operational needs across USASOC, NAVSPECWARCOM, AFSOC, and MARSOC (preferred).
  • Familiarity with LPI/LPD, anti-jamming tactics, or signature management in contested environments (preferred).
