TL;DR · Artificial Intelligence for Video Compression Research Scientist

Artificial Intelligence for Video Compression - Research Scientist joins the Multimedia R&D and Standards Group to focus on learning-based video compression. This role involves the conception, development, implementation, and optimization of novel algorithms including neural video coding, learned motion representation, and entropy modeling. The researcher will evaluate hybrid compression systems using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques and rate-distortion optimization while representing the company in standardization forums like JVET, MPEG Video, and ITU-T/VCEG. Candidates must possess expertise in computer vision, generative AI, and video coding standards such as VVC, HEVC, or AV1. Required technical skills include proficiency in Python and C/C++ programming alongside experience with machine learning frameworks like PyTorch. The work centers on solving complex problems in neural compression to advance next-generation video coding technologies and contribute to future industry standards through publications and patent applications.

What you'll do

  • Develop and optimize novel learning-based video compression algorithms including neural coding and entropy modeling.
  • Evaluate and improve neural and hybrid compression systems using state-of-the-art machine learning techniques.
  • Perform rate-distortion optimization for advanced video coding technologies.
  • Represent the company in international standardization forums such as JVET, MPEG Video, and ITU-T/VCEG.
  • Document new algorithms through patent applications, conference papers, and journal publications.
  • Present research findings and technical implementations at industry conferences and internal meetings.
  • Implement machine learning models using Python, C/C++, and frameworks like PyTorch.

What we're looking for

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • A Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • A PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience developing and evaluating machine learning models for compression, computer vision, or multimedia applications.
  • Proficiency in Python and C/C++ programming along with experience using PyTorch or similar machine learning frameworks.
  • Knowledge of video coding theory, rate-distortion optimization, and neural compression techniques.
  • Experience with video compression standards such as VVC/H.266, HEVC/H.265, AV1, or emerging neural technologies.
  • A track record of research accomplishments through publications at leading conferences or patent applications.
  • Developed innovative machine learning algorithms related to learned image/video compression, computer vision, or generative AI (preferred).
