WHAT YOU'LL DO

Site Reliability Engineers (SREs) are responsible for keeping all internal-facing services and platforms running smoothly. In a nutshell, SREs ensure site uptime. SREs blend sensible system administrators and software engineers who apply sound engineering principles, operational discipline, and mature automation to the environments and infrastructure services we provide. We specialize in systems–whether it be networking, the Linux kernel, or some more specific interest in scaling–algorithms or distributed systems.

Our team helps to improve automation, infrastructure reliability, and empowers Braze’s other engineering teams to leverage the infrastructure products and platforms we create easily. Braze operates at a massive scale with over 3.3 billion monthly active users across our customers, collecting hundreds of billions of data points each month, and sending billions of messages to end-users daily. We use a diverse technology stack rooted in Ruby on Rails, MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, and more. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Braze, you will collaborate with your team and consumer engineering teams to continuously improve the infrastructure, automation, and tooling that build internal products from these technologies.

Main responsibilities:

• Partner with Braze’s engineering teams on:

• Architecting products to effectively utilize infrastructure platforms in a scalable, reliable manner

• Debugging reliability and scalability issues across all stack layers, including the products built using our infrastructure platforms
• Make monitoring and alerting alerts on symptoms and not on outages

• Ensure that Braze meets our strict enterprise-grade SLAs with customers

• Develop Braze’s internal platform infrastructure:

• Create Infrastructure as code using Chef, Terraform, and Kubernetes

• Develop deployment pipelines for applications in multiple languages using Docker, Kubernetes, etc

• Provide centralized/common tooling, services, and automation frameworks that are critical for scaling operations, capacity management, reducing operational pain, and improving the day-to-day workflow of Braze’s engineering teams

• Manage incidents:

• Be on a PagerDuty rotation to respond to availability incidents and provide support for other engineers

• Use your on-call shift to prevent incidents from ever happening
• Retrospect everything that happens to turn lessons into system improvements/changes, automation, etc

WHO ARE YOU

• 5+ years of experience as a Software, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineer
• You think about systems - interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, specific implementations

• Have an urge to collaborate, document, and deliver quickly

• Collaborating across the global remote teams, often working asynchronously

• Document everything so you don't need to learn the same thing (or plan the same work) twice

• Delivering fast to delight our customers - even internal ones

• Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude. When you see something broken, you can't help but fix it

• Have a desire to solve everyday challenges facing software engineers and automate their toil away
• Have an excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and expectations at once
• Know your way around Linux and Unix Shell.
• Have strong programming skills - Ruby and/or Go preferred
• Have experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, or similar IaC technologies
• Have experience with MongoDB, Redis, Kafka, Postgres, or similar data technologies

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $156,364 and $279,957/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $172,000 and $306,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We're looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for our Currents team, responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving Currents, our data export system at scale. The Currents system is a robust Kafka-based event pipeline handling tens of billions of messages daily that our customers leverage to analyze user behavior in near real-time.

You’ll be a key engineer on a highly collaborative and skilled team, responsible for bringing projects from concept to production and improving our existing high-scale systems. You will be leveraging your experience, your skills, and a strong sense of teamwork to tackle the significant engineering challenges of running a critical data streaming system. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will specifically focus on the observability, scalability, and reliability strategy aspects of every project.

Specific examples of what this translates to:

• Solve live performance and reliability issues and prevent their recurrence
• Write and review code, educating engineers and building a culture of reliability
• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
• Define and enable standards for monitoring, reliability, and performance
• Bridge the gap between infrastructure and platform engineering teams
• Support and improve services by planning for scale and reliability
• Guide junior engineers in SRE best practices, software engineering, and agile project leadership

WHO YOU ARE

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field
• Five (5) years of experience in any role/occupation/position involving software engineering or site reliability engineering

• Experience must include:

• Using distributed systems to deploy and monitor live applications such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm

• Working with alerting software (Sentry, Datadog, and/or PagerDuty)
• Utilizing programming languages (Java, Kotlin, and/or Ruby) to understand and contribute to the codebase
• Storing data in relational and non-relational databases such as Postgres and MongoDb
• Data streaming or queuing systems to build data pipelines with technologies like Kafka, Sidekiq or SQS and SNS
• Leveraging continuous integration tools such as Jenkins or Buildkite
• Collaborating with engineers through pull requests and code reviews in version control software such as GitHub or GitLab

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $129,600 and $232,200/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $258,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

We're looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer for our Currents team, responsible for building, maintaining, and evolving Currents, our data export system at scale. The Currents system is a robust Kafka-based event pipeline handling tens of billions of messages daily that our customers leverage to analyze user behavior in near real-time.

You’ll be a key engineer on a highly collaborative and skilled team, responsible for bringing projects from concept to production and improving our existing high-scale systems. You will be leveraging your experience, your skills, and a strong sense of teamwork to tackle the significant engineering challenges of running a critical data streaming system. As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer, you will specifically focus on the observability, scalability, and reliability strategy aspects of every project.

Specific examples of what this translates to:

• Solve live performance and reliability issues and prevent their recurrence
• Write and review code, educating engineers and building a culture of reliability
• Practice sustainable incident response and blameless postmortems
• Define and enable standards for monitoring, reliability, and performance
• Bridge the gap between infrastructure and platform engineering teams
• Support and improve services by planning for scale and reliability
• Guide junior engineers in SRE best practices, software engineering, and agile project leadership

WHO YOU ARE

• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field
• Five (5) years of experience in any role/occupation/position involving software engineering or site reliability engineering

• Experience must include:

• Using distributed systems to deploy and monitor live applications such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm

• Working with alerting software (Sentry, Datadog, and/or PagerDuty)
• Utilizing programming languages (Java, Kotlin, and/or Ruby) to understand and contribute to the codebase
• Storing data in relational and non-relational databases such as Postgres and MongoDb
• Data streaming or queuing systems to build data pipelines with technologies like Kafka, Sidekiq or SQS and SNS
• Leveraging continuous integration tools such as Jenkins or Buildkite
• Collaborating with engineers through pull requests and code reviews in version control software such as GitHub or GitLab

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $129,600 and $232,200/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $258,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.

Senior Platform Software Engineer I

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Platform Software Engineers (PSWEs) design and build the distributed systems that power Braze's massive-scale background processing platform. We own Sidekiq at Braze—processing more than a trillion jobs daily across Kubernetes clusters worldwide. Our work spans autoscaling systems, metrics pipelines, reliable job execution, and internal frameworks that make distributed processing safe for application teams.

Braze operates at a massive scale: 3.3 billion monthly active users, hundreds of billions of data points collected each month, and billions of messages sent daily. Our tech stack is rooted in Ruby on Rails, Go, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka. As a PSWE, you'll collaborate with application teams to evolve the Sidekiq platform they depend on and improve the reliability, performance, and developer experience.

Main responsibilities:

• Develop Braze’s embedded frameworks that enable large-scale distributed processing

• Design, build, and operate internal software frameworks that power Braze’s asynchronous and background processing systems at massive scale

• Evolve and extend frameworks built on technologies such as Sidekiq to reliably execute over a trillion jobs per day across a globally distributed platform
• Own scaling behavior, reliability guarantees, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems
• Provide opinionated abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that allow application teams to use distributed processing safely without needing to manage underlying complexity

• Improve observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for large-scale job-processing systems

• Manage incidents:

• Be on a PagerDuty rotation to respond to availability incidents and provide support for other engineers

• Use your on-call shift to prevent incidents from ever happening
• Retrospect everything that happens to turn lessons into system improvements/changes, automation, etc.

WHO YOU ARE

• 5+ years of distributed systems development or platform/infrastructure experience
• You think about systems - interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, and specific implementations
• Have an urge to collaborate, document, and deliver quickly
• Collaborating across the global remote teams, often working asynchronously
• Document everything so you don't need to learn the same thing (or plan the same work) twice
• Delivering fast to delight our customers–even internal ones
• Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude. When you see something broken, you can't help but fix it
• Have a desire to solve everyday challenges facing software engineers and automate their toil away
• Have an excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and expectations at once
• Experienced in working on large-scale API-driven systems
• Experienced in application and systems observability
• Experience with distributed systems, message queues, or background job processing, with a strong focus on Sidekiq
• Strong Ruby and Rails experience, with Go experience being helpful (our primary languages)
• Interest in reliability engineering—failure modes, retry semantics, idempotency

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Platform Software Engineers (PSWEs) design and build the distributed systems that power Braze's massive-scale background processing platform. We own Sidekiq at Braze—processing more than a trillion jobs daily across Kubernetes clusters worldwide. Our work spans autoscaling systems, metrics pipelines, reliable job execution, and internal frameworks that make distributed processing safe for application teams.

Braze operates at a massive scale: 3.3 billion monthly active users, hundreds of billions of data points collected each month, and billions of messages sent daily. Our tech stack is rooted in Ruby on Rails, Go, MongoDB, Redis, and Kafka. As a PSWE, you'll collaborate with application teams to evolve the Sidekiq platform they depend on and improve the reliability, performance, and developer experience.

Main responsibilities:

• Develop Braze’s embedded frameworks that enable large-scale distributed processing

• Design, build, and operate internal software frameworks that power Braze’s asynchronous and background processing systems at massive scale

• Evolve and extend frameworks built on technologies such as Sidekiq to reliably execute over a trillion jobs per day across a globally distributed platform
• Own scaling behavior, reliability guarantees, failure modes, and operational safety of these systems
• Provide opinionated abstractions, tooling, and guardrails that allow application teams to use distributed processing safely without needing to manage underlying complexity

• Improve observability, debuggability, and operational ergonomics for large-scale job-processing systems

• Manage incidents:

• Be on a PagerDuty rotation to respond to availability incidents and provide support for other engineers

• Use your on-call shift to prevent incidents from ever happening
• Retrospect everything that happens to turn lessons into system improvements/changes, automation, etc.

WHO YOU ARE

• 5+ years of distributed systems development or platform/infrastructure experience
• You think about systems - interfaces, boundaries, edge cases, failure modes, behaviors, and specific implementations
• Have an urge to collaborate, document, and deliver quickly
• Collaborating across the global remote teams, often working asynchronously
• Document everything so you don't need to learn the same thing (or plan the same work) twice
• Delivering fast to delight our customers–even internal ones
• Have an enthusiastic, go-for-it attitude. When you see something broken, you can't help but fix it
• Have a desire to solve everyday challenges facing software engineers and automate their toil away
• Have an excellent ability to manage multiple tasks and expectations at once
• Experienced in working on large-scale API-driven systems

• Strong Ruby and Rails experience, with Go experience being helpful (our primary languages)

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $128,842 and $232,200/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $144,000 and $258,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, Braze offers full- and part- time employees a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that all Braze employees own a piece of our company.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Braze delivers customer experiences across email, mobile, SMS, and web. The Canvas Logic and Execution (CLX) team manages the full platform lifecycle of Canvas, our flagship product for marketing automation workflows. As a mission-critical, high-scale, and high-performance system, Canvas processes billions of asynchronous jobs and operates on global infrastructure spanning multiple cloud providers.

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Engineering Manager to spearhead the CLX team. This role is crucial for continually refining our platform based on user feedback and strategically expanding its capabilities to support increasingly complex and personalized real-time workflows at massive scale.

As the Engineering Manager, you will establish and maintain best-in-class systems by contributing to the architecture, development, and optimization of our product. You will drive your team's success by defining efficient processes, fostering engineers’ professional growth, and collaborating closely with the Product Manager and Designer to align team efforts with core product objectives.

WHO YOU ARE

• 5+ years of relevant experience as a manager with a strong track record of success
• Demonstrated experience in technical leadership, with the ability to drive and advocate for best-in-class iterative product development and engineering excellence
• Proven track record of architecting and driving significant technical initiatives for large-scale platforms
• Calm, patient, considerate, compassionate, supportive, and inspiring leader
• A self-starter with great communication and strong organizational skills, able to manage competing priorities and multiple streams of work at once
• Experience with agile processes and tools
• Bonus Qualifications:
• Experience with distributed systems, MongoDB, Redis, Datadog, Kubernetes, React, Ruby, Ruby on Rails

For candidates based in the United States, the pay range for this position at the start of employment is expected to be between $153,000 and $270,300/year with an expected On Target Earnings (OTE) between $180,000 and $318,000/year (including bonus or commission). Your exact offer may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to cash compensation, this role qualifies for a comprehensive Total Rewards package that includes equity grants of restricted stock (RSUs) so that you will own a piece of our company.
