The 2027 Engineering Corporate Parallel Co-op Program provides a continuous employment pipeline for engineering, technology, and computer science students focused on product development at Caterpillar. Participants work within various teams to perform design and simulation tasks, including CFD, FEA, and 3D modeling to optimize engine, powertrain, and machine system performance. Responsibilities include developing control system algorithms using Matlab and Simulink, designing electronic components, and creating embedded software in C, C#, or C++. Candidates will also engage in hardware-in-the-loop testing, engineering data analytics using Python, and process engineering to improve manufacturing workflows. The role requires strong analytical skills and a foundation in mechanical, electrical, computer, agricultural, or aerospace engineering. This position addresses complex technical challenges in product design, electronic module validation, and automated script development for large-scale industrial equipment systems.
Engineer components and systems for Caterpillar products to meet customer needs through the entire production lifecycle.
Perform simulation and performance analysis using CFD, FEA, 3D modeling, and root cause investigations.
Conduct hands-on testing and validation to troubleshoot issues and optimize system performance.
Develop and implement control system algorithms using Matlab and Simulink for various machine components.
Design and test electronic control modules and perform circuit analysis while documenting FMEAs.
Develop embedded software in C, C#, or C++ for communication, sensor integration, and memory management.
Verify functionality of features and algorithms on HIL and SIL simulator benches.
Analyze engineering data using Python and machine learning tools to optimize manufacturing processes.
What we're looking for
Must be enrolled full-time in a 4-year university or college pursuing an ABET accredited degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Agricultural, or Aerospace Engineering or Engineering Technology.
Must maintain a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA at the current institution.
Strong analytical skills including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and critical thinking.
Knowledge of engineering principles and experience gained through projects, internships, or relevant work.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while learning new skills quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across diverse teams.
Management experience (preferred).
Previous technical internship, co-op, research, or relevant experience (preferred).
