Participants may focus on product design for components and systems, simulation and performance analysis using CFD and FEA, or hands-on testing and validation to troubleshoot issues. The role involves developing control system algorithms with MATLAB and Simulink, designing electronic components and printed circuit boards, and developing embedded software in C, C#, or C++. Additionally, interns may perform software validation on HIL or SIL benches, conduct engineering data analytics using Python, or engage in process engineering to optimize manufacturing workflows. This position addresses technical challenges in engine, powertrain, battery, fuel cell, and machine system performance while requiring skills in root cause analysis, circuit testing, and multi-core design for various electronic control modules.

What you'll do

  • Engineer components and systems for products to meet customer needs through cross-functional collaboration.
  • Perform simulation and performance analysis using CFD, FEA, 3D modeling, and root cause investigation.
  • Conduct hands-on testing and validation to troubleshoot issues and optimize system performance.
  • Develop and implement control system algorithms using MATLAB and Simulink for various machine components.
  • Design and test electronic control modules while performing circuit analysis and FMEA documentation.
  • Develop embedded software in C, C#, or C++ for communication, sensor integration, and memory management.
  • Verify functionality of features and algorithms on HIL or SIL simulator benches.
  • Analyze engineering data using Python to apply machine learning concepts and statistical fundamentals.

What we're looking for

  • Must be enrolled full-time in a 4-year university pursuing an ABET accredited degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Agricultural, Aerospace Engineering, or similar technical programs.
  • Must have completed at least 24 semester hours from current institution or 12 semester hours if a transfer student.
  • Must have a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative grade point average at the time of application and maintain it until the start of the internship.
  • Must be able to relocate to Peoria, IL or other indicated locations and commute daily using reliable transportation.
  • Must possess analytical skills, troubleshooting abilities, root cause analysis, and critical thinking capabilities.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of engineering principles for manufacturing environments and systems design.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
  • Project or team leadership experience (preferred).
  • Previous technical internship, co-op, or research/relevant experience (preferred).
