TL;DR · Engineering Rotational Development Program Product Development Track

2027 Engineering Rotational Development Program (ERDP) - Product Development Track is an entry-level program designed for engineers to develop skills through rotating assignments across multiple teams and technologies over 12 to 18 months. Participants will work on projects involving product design, simulation and performance analysis using ANSYS, and hands-on testing and validation. The role involves developing control system algorithms with Matlab/Simulink, designing electronic components and PCB layouts, and creating embedded software in C, C#, or C++. Additionally, candidates may perform software verification on HIL or SIL benches, conduct engineering data analytics using Python and machine learning, or focus on process engineering. This program addresses the technical challenges of manufacturing construction and mining equipment, specifically focusing on engine performance, powertrain systems, and electronic control modules to deliver high-quality products and innovative solutions for heavy machinery.

What you'll do

  • Design components and systems for Caterpillar products to meet specific customer needs.
  • Conduct simulation and performance analyses using CFD, FEA, and 3D modeling techniques.
  • Perform hands-on testing and validation to troubleshoot issues and optimize machine performance.
  • Develop and implement control system algorithms using Matlab and Simulink.
  • Design, test, and perform circuit analysis for electronic control modules and components.
  • Develop embedded software in C, C#, or C++ for various electronic systems.
  • Verify and debug software functionality on HIL and SIL simulator benches.
  • Analyze engineering data using Python and machine learning to optimize manufacturing processes.

What we're looking for

  • Must have an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, Agricultural, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline.
  • Must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0/4.0 or higher.
  • Candidates with prior professional work experience must have 12 months or less of such experience, excluding internships.
  • Must be willing to relocate and travel as needed.
  • Must possess analytical skills, troubleshooting abilities, and strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of engineering for a manufacturing environment including materials, structures, machines, and systems.
  • Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Involvement with a campus design/competition team or project leadership experience (preferred).
