JOB TITLE: (USA) Director, Software Engineering
The Director, Software Engineering joins the Traffic Foundation team within the Infrastructure and Platform Engineering organization to lead the strategy, architecture, and operations of mission-critical traffic management systems. This leader will define the technical roadmap, manage global engineering teams, and oversee the delivery of high-performing distributed systems. Key responsibilities include driving platform modernization, establishing engineering standards for reliability and security, and managing incident response for systems handling millions of requests per second. The role requires deep expertise in networking, Layer 4 and Layer 7 routing, load balancing, proxies, caching, and edge services. Candidates must possess skills in TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS, and cloud-native architectures using technologies like Go, Rust, Java, Azure, Kubernetes, and Site Reliability Engineering practices to support eCommerce and supply chain systems.
Define and drive the technical vision, architecture, and roadmap for Traffic Foundation platforms.
Establish engineering standards and best practices for scalability, reliability, and security.
Lead and develop engineering managers and senior engineers across global teams.
Oversee the design and operation of highly available, distributed systems supporting critical applications.
Drive platform modernization, automation, and cloud adoption initiatives.
Own the reliability, performance, and security of critical traffic infrastructure.
Lead incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement efforts.
Establish and monitor key operational and engineering metrics.
What we're looking for
Option 1: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in software engineering.
Option 2: 8 years’ experience in software engineering or related area and 3 years' supervisory experience.
Deep expertise in distributed systems, networking, and traffic management technologies.
Experience with Layer 4 and Layer 7 routing, load balancing, proxies, caching, and edge services.
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, TLS, and cloud-native architectures.
Experience operating large-scale production systems across thousands of servers.
Working knowledge of modern programming languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or similar technologies.
Experience with Azure, Kubernetes, platform engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices (preferred).
