The UAS Software Engineer joins the Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance division to support the development and testing of flight components for Group 4/5 unmanned aircraft systems. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, the engineer will write and maintain clean code for embedded systems, perform developmental testing in laboratory and field environments, and integrate software solutions into UAS platforms. The role involves programming design components, troubleshooting real-world challenges, and managing payload and sensor integration. Candidates must possess proficiency in C/C++, Python, MATLAB, or JavaScript, alongside a strong foundation in data structures, algorithms, and applied mathematics like linear algebra and differential equations. This position addresses the technical challenge of developing autonomous vehicle control systems and electromechanical devices for long-endurance aircraft, ensuring application readiness across all phases of the product life cycle from initial development through active operations.
Write and maintain clean, well-documented, and efficient code for embedded systems.
Develop software control programs for electromechanical systems and autonomous vehicle platforms.
Perform bring-up, prototyping, and testing of hardware components in laboratory and field environments.
Integrate sensors and payload systems into uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS).
Debug and troubleshoot complex codebases to resolve real-world technical challenges.
Design and integrate electrical subsystems for airborne platforms.
Conduct developmental testing to identify and fix issues within the software codebase.
Develop tangible engineering solutions for sensor systems under rapid development timelines.
What we're looking for
Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace engineering, or a related field.
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret DoD security clearance.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++, Python, MATLAB, and JavaScript.
Experience with embedded systems for autonomous vehicles.
Strong understanding of software engineering concepts including data structures, algorithm application, analysis, optimization, and testing.
Knowledge of applied mathematics, differential equations, linear algebra, and statistics.
Basic software programming of electrical components, retrieval and evaluation of data, and modifying code on devices.
Experience with unmanned/autonomous vehicles or designing/testing electrical subsystems for airborne platforms (preferred).
