Test Engineer Submarine Operations Technical Lead serves as a technical lead within Department 403 Technical Services to provide guidance, oversight, and coordination for the development of new and modified logistics technical data. This role involves managing a writing group and overseeing product lines including ship systems manuals, component technical manuals, steam and electric plant manuals, and maintenance documents for various submarine classes. The individual will ensure quality standards are met, resolve internal and external comments, evaluate designs, and provide man-hour estimates while collaborating with engineering departments and the Navy customer. Required skills include strong written and verbal communication, independent planning, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. The role addresses the critical problem of maintaining accurate technical documentation for submarine systems, including hull, mechanical, and electrical systems, to ensure operational availability and capability.
Provide technical guidance and oversight for the development of new and modified logistics technical data products.
Ensure all technical manuals are accurate and prepared according to published procedures and processes.
Resolve internal and external comments regarding logistics technical data products.
Interface with engineering departments, shipyard organizations, vendors, and Navy customers to resolve technical issues.
Attend kickoff meetings to evaluate designs and provide man-hour estimates for manual updates.
Determine priorities, develop schedules, and manage the workload of the writing group.
Identify and implement process improvements as needed.
What we're looking for
High School Diploma or GED.
Served submarine qualified (SS) Lieutenant (LT) or above, or served submarine qualified (SS) Chief Petty Officer (CPO) or above.
5+ years of experience related to operating, maintaining, or documenting submarine ship systems and the use of operating procedures.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.
Preferred: Served submarine qualified (SS) Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) or above, or served submarine qualified (SS) Senior Chief Petty Officer (SCPO) or above.
Preferred: Successful completion of Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
Preferred: Experience with operation and maintenance of non-propulsion electronics system (NPES) equipment and hull, mechanical, and electrical (HM&E) systems.
Preferred: Experience with submarine Logistics Technical Data, special emphasis programs (DSS-SOC, SUBSAFE, Fly-by-Wire), and an active SECRET security clearance.
