What you'll do

Lead the design, development, and optimization of Java-based back-end services for the insurance platform.
Set the architecture and technology strategy for back-end applications, user interfaces, and data reporting.
Design and implement microservices and RESTful APIs to support secure and efficient system integrations.
Establish best practices for coding principles, security frameworks, quality assurance, and release standards.
Manage a team of developers and contractors by providing mentorship, setting goals, and performing reviews.
Oversee hiring processes, identify necessary resources, and manage departmental budgets.
Monitor and resolve performance bottlenecks to ensure optimal system response times and scalability.
Lead troubleshooting efforts and drive continuous improvements in back-end development processes.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Technology Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of experience in Java-focused back-end development.
8+ years of experience building technology solutions in the Group Benefits insurance or financial services industry.
Proficiency in Git for version control.
Experience with business rule and workflow tools like Kraken, OpenL, and Flowable (preferred).
3+ years of supervisory experience (preferred).
Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for meetings and planning.
Experience with microservices and RESTful APIs.
