The System Development Engineer, Amazon Leo, Amazon Leo joins the Payload Integration and Testing team to validate the end-to-end network interface communication system for a low Earth orbit satellite network. This role involves designing and building test automation frameworks, test harnesses, and orchestration software to exercise the full stack, from device-interface layers to infrastructure and operational tooling. You will write low-level interface code and device drivers for protocols including serial/UART, I2C/SPI, USB, Ethernet, and SCPI. Key responsibilities include hardware bring-up, automating provisioning via infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines, and managing distributed hardware-in-the-loop test venues. Required skills include proficiency in languages like Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust, along with Linux networking, TCP/IP, and experience interfacing software with physical hardware.
Design and maintain test automation frameworks and orchestration software to validate the satellite network end-to-end.
Develop automated test suites and tooling for engineers to author, schedule, and debug tests across distributed venues.
Write low-level interface code and device drivers for protocols like serial/UART, I2C/SPI, USB, and Ethernet.
Perform hardware bring-up by interpreting command sets and register maps to build abstraction layers for test automation.
Build and operate the networking and infrastructure connecting distributed hardware-in-the-loop venues to cloud services.
Automate the provisioning and deployment of test environments using infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines.
Build monitoring, alarming, and observability dashboards for test orchestration systems and underlying infrastructure.
Manage operational excellence through on-call response, incident management, and root-cause analysis for the test stack.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
3+ years of professional software development experience, including building test automation, tooling, or production systems.
Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, or Rust.
Experience designing and building automated test frameworks, test harnesses, or test orchestration software.
Experience interfacing software with physical hardware at a low level, including writing or debugging device-control code over serial/UART, I2C/SPI, USB, GPIO, or instrument-control protocols.
Experience in Linux OS and network troubleshooting, including networking protocols and administration.
Experience building and operating production infrastructure, including automated provisioning and deployment.
Understanding of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, routing, and firewalls.
