The Staff Enterprise Architect joins the GM Defense IT team to define and lead the target-state architecture, standards, and transition approach for a scalable, compliant IT ecosystem. This expert individual contributor will build high-level architecture structures, principles, and guardrails while leading large initiatives across secure environment capabilities, enterprise applications, and supporting platforms. Key responsibilities include managing application inventories, migration-wave planning, and establishing decision frameworks to reduce operational friction. The role requires deep expertise in systems design, integration, and infrastructure within regulated government-contract environments. Candidates must navigate complex requirements including CMMC, DFARS, and NIST SP 800-171 frameworks. You will solve technical trade-offs involving data protection, identity management, and auditability to ensure the defense technology roadmap balances compliance, resiliency, and speed of delivery.
Define and lead the target-state architecture, standards, and transition approach for a scalable, compliant IT ecosystem.
Establish architecture principles, guardrails, and decision frameworks to guide technology direction across multiple domains.
Partner with stakeholders to evaluate technical trade-offs and align on architecture directions for cybersecurity, compliance, and infrastructure.
Lead application inventory, classification, and migration-wave planning for all in-scope GM Defense platforms.
Own the enterprise roadmap for reducing operating friction and improving user experience across Fed Zone and LLC environments.
Drive architecture efforts for security, access management, data protection, and other requirements in regulated environments.
Support architecture governance by creating design artifacts and documentation to ensure traceability and execution.
Act as a strategic thought partner to help leadership move from high-level strategy to measurable technical outcomes.
What we're looking for
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution architecture, systems design, or related senior IT architecture roles.
Experience defining end-to-end architectures for complex enterprise solutions including applications, integrations, infrastructure, security, and operations.
Experience establishing architecture direction, standards, guardrails, and technology roadmaps across one or more business or technical domains.
Experience architecting or governing secure or highly controlled environments with strong identity, access, network, data protection, auditability, and compliance requirements.
Experience in regulated or government-contract environments such as defense or aerospace.
Knowledge of government cybersecurity and compliance frameworks such as CMMC, DFARS, or NIST SP 800-171.
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) due to export control restrictions.
