TL;DR · Senior Supplier Development Engineer, Data Center

Sr. Supplier Development Engineer, Data Center (Starlink) is a high-profile, cross-functional role focused on developing, driving, and maintaining suppliers from initial concept through full-scale production. The engineer will manage complex rack-level solutions involving mechanical, electrical, power, thermal, networking, and software integration domains to activate advanced data center facilities. Key responsibilities include integrating Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability principles into infrastructure architecture, designing accelerated test plans for design validation, and leading FMEA sessions to mitigate hardware risks. The role involves managing supplier processes like FAI and PPAP reports while collaborating with procurement to source parts based on manufacturing capabilities. Required expertise includes data center hardware design, thermal engineering, and electronics. Preferred skills include proficiency in Python and JMP for statistical analysis, as well as experience with failure analysis techniques such as X-ray, SEM, and optical microscopy.

What you'll do

  • Analyze data center hardware and processes using a first principles, physics-based approach.
  • Own complex rack-level solutions across mechanical, electrical, power, thermal, networking, and software domains.
  • Integrate Reliability, Availability, and Serviceability (RAS) principles into data center architecture to ensure maximum uptime.
  • Provide technical guidance on infrastructure including PDUs, cooling systems, airflow design, and high-density compute integration.
  • Design accelerated test plans for design validation, burn-in testing, and environmental stress screening.
  • Lead design FMEA sessions to assess hardware risks and drive reliable design choices.
  • Develop hardware qualification criteria and drive system-level optimization for high-volume installation.
  • Manage supplier processes including the approval of first article inspection (FAI) and production part approval process (PPAP) reports.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in data center hardware design, integration, or manufacturing.
  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience focused on hyperscale or large-scale data center development and execution of complex rack solutions.
  • Proficiency in statistical data analysis using tools such as JMP and Python.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques including optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, FIB, X-ray, cross-sectioning, and EDX.
  • Experience in thermal analysis and data center cooling systems.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
