The Sr. Specialist, SATCOM Systems Engineer joins the Communication Systems team to support the full lifecycle of advanced data link and SATCOM systems. This role involves managing requirements across system levels, defining architecture, performing trade studies, and overseeing integration, verification, and deployment. The engineer will develop technical documentation, manage risks, and lead root-cause analysis for complex hardware and software-intensive solutions. Key responsibilities include ensuring traceability, conducting design reviews, and improving digital engineering practices like Model-Based Systems Engineering. Essential skills include expertise in SATCOM and line-of-sight systems, experience with Type 1 encryption products, and proficiency with lab test equipment such as signal generators and spectrum analyzers. The role addresses the technical challenges of developing mission-critical communication systems while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity requirements and rigorous quality standards across various program phases.
Execute systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle including requirements development, architecture definition, and integration.
Manage customer and derived requirements through decomposition, traceability, change control, and verification closure.
Contribute to technical baseline development, trade studies, and design reviews for complex communication systems.
Develop and maintain technical documentation such as interface control documents, test plans, and verification strategies.
Perform risk management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action planning for cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
Provide technical guidance to other engineers and recommend improvements to systems engineering processes and MBSE practices.
Support customer engagements, technical reviews, and program milestones through clear communication of technical information.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree and 6 years of experience, a graduate degree and 4 years of experience, or 10 years of experience without a degree.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Experience supporting complex systems engineering for integrated communications, SATCOM, or data link systems (preferred).
Background in requirements management, system architecture, interface definition, integration, and verification for hardware and software-intensive systems (preferred).
Experience designing, building, integrating, testing, and optimizing military communications systems (preferred).
Experience with lab test equipment such as signal generators, spectrum analyzers, power meters, and network testers (preferred).
Familiarity with requirements management tools, modeling and simulation, configuration management, and MBSE methodologies (preferred).
