As an Engineer Senior 1 on Nordstrom's Inventory Positioning team, you will design and build core capabilities for the Inventory Positioning Engine (IPE), a platform that optimizes inventory placement across fulfillment centers, stores, and distribution networks. Your daily tasks include implementing complex decision pipelines, integrating Pack & Hold Reimagined, Returns Positioning, and Racking features, and automating positioning services to enhance efficiency. You will work with Java, Spring Boot, Python, React, JavaScript, and C#, alongside AWS/GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD tools, while ensuring system scalability and security. This role requires a strong background in software engineering, experience with backend databases like Spanner or Postgres, RESTful services, and event-driven applications, as well as expertise in agile methodologies and object-oriented design patterns.
Design and build real-time inventory positioning decision pipelines.
Own end-to-end implementation of complex inventory capabilities like Pack & Hold Reimagined.
Identify and implement automation to streamline delivery of positioning services.
Make technical tradeoffs between short-term needs and long-term business goals.
Mentor more junior engineers and participate in code reviews for quality assurance.
Ensure work follows Nordstrom’s engineering and security standards, contributing when applicable.
What we're looking for
6+ years of professional experience in software development
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering
Proficiency in Java and Spring Boot framework
Experience with backend databases (Spanner, NoSQL, Postgres)
Knowledge of RESTful services and event-driven applications
Familiarity with AWS/GCP services and containerization technologies
Strong object-oriented design skills and understanding of application patterns
