JOB TITLE: Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Leo AI Foundations The Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Leo AI Foundations joins the team responsible for Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. This role involves designing, implementing, and operating globally distributed systems to achieve low single-digit-second query responses within a near real-time analytics layer or lakehouse. You will build agentic AI capabilities for autonomous operational intelligence, architecting multi-agent systems to monitor and optimize the health of satellites, ground gateways, and customer terminals. Key responsibilities include developing reinforcement learning-based agents, building RAG systems, and designing hybrid search strategies using dense and sparse representations. You will utilize AWS technologies to create a scalable S3-based Data Lakehouse, manage a globally distributed vector database, and implement OLAP-based analytics. The work focuses on solving complex distributed system issues through automated telemetry analysis and intelligent orchestration.

What you'll do

Architect multi-agent systems to analyze telemetry data and autonomously recommend corrective actions for the satellite constellation.
Develop intelligent agents capable of reasoning across distributed systems to identify root causes of operational issues.
Build agentic workflows to autonomously triage system anomalies and generate actionable insights for operations teams.
Implement reinforcement learning-based agents to optimize system performance parameters in real-time based on network demand.
Build RAG systems combining real-time telemetry with historical data and technical documentation to provide context-aware insights.
Architect a scalable, cost-optimized S3-based Data Lakehouse to unify structured and unstructured data across the Leo constellation.
Design and implement a scalable OLAP-based analytics layer capable of achieving low single-digit-second query responses.
Architect a globally distributed vector database infrastructure capable of managing billions of embeddings with sub-100ms retrieval times.

What we're looking for

5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
5+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language.
5+ years of experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems.
Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
5+ years of full software development life cycle experience (preferred).
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred).
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as a refugee or granted asylum.
