TL;DR · Senior Software Dev Engineer, Leo AI Foundations

Sr. Software Dev Engineer, Leo AI Foundations joins the Leo AI Foundations team to build the intelligent cloud backbone powering AI-driven decision making across a satellite constellation. This role involves designing and operating globally distributed systems, including an S3-based Data Lakehouse for unified data, OLAP-based analytics layers, and a distributed vector database infrastructure for high-speed retrieval. You will develop new cloud services and APIs to facilitate agentic AI capabilities, manage metadata with automated lineage tracking, and implement hybrid search strategies using dense and sparse representations. The work focuses on solving complex problems in network performance, routing, and user experience by creating low-latency architectures for satellite and ground systems. Key technical requirements include expertise in distributed systems, data lakehouse architecture, and advanced programming to support real-time analytics and large-scale data processing.

What you'll do

  • Architect and implement a scalable, cost-optimized S3-based Data Lakehouse for structured and unstructured data.
  • Build an OLAP-based analytics layer to provide low-latency query responses for real-time analysis.
  • Design and manage a globally distributed vector database infrastructure for high-speed embedding retrieval.
  • Develop hybrid search strategies combining dense vectors with sparse representations for optimized semantic retrieval.
  • Establish automated data quality frameworks including staging-first policies and validation pipelines.
  • Create semantic data models that balance analytical performance with AI retrieval requirements.
  • Implement cross-domain federated query capabilities using advanced optimization techniques.
  • Build cloud services and APIs to orchestrate intelligent operations across satellite and ground systems.

What we're looking for

  • Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language.
  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent (preferred).
