Senior Engineering Manager, Advisor Solutions

What you'll do

• Lead, grow, and manage a team of fullstack engineers to build innovative technology for financial advisors.
• Develop and execute a mission-aligned technical roadmap in collaboration with product management and stakeholders.
• Provide architectural direction, perform code reviews, and contribute to the codebase as a player coach.
• Drive the implementation of agile engineering practices to ensure the predictable delivery of high-quality, scalable solutions.
• Partner with recruiting to hire, onboard, and mentor a diverse team of talented engineers.
• Align project opportunities with the career growth ambitions and professional development of direct reports.
• Manage technical integrations including APIs, datasets, and background processes across internal and external applications.
• Collaborate with business leaders to shape strategies that improve Betterment's standing in the financial services industry.

What we're looking for

• Strong experience in object-oriented programming.
• Experience with hands-on management, mentoring, and inspiring a diverse team of talented engineers.
• Experience operating as a player coach, actively contributing in the same capacity as engineers when required.
• Ability to provide architectural direction, perform code reviews, and perform hands-on work in the codebase.
• Experience leading large team projects and managing smaller concurrent projects in partnership with senior engineers.
• Experience building high production-value software while maintaining a nimble and productive culture.
• Experience collaborating with engineering teams, product managers, subject matter experts, and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of hiring, onboarding, growing engineers, and maintaining a high bar of performance.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails (preferred).
• Experience with React, GraphQL, and data engineering (preferred).
