TL;DR · SPOCT Leader - Small Uncrewed Engines

The SPOCT Leader provides technical leadership for the Small Uncrewed Engines development portfolio, specifically supporting the GEK1500 and GE426 propulsion systems. This role is responsible for ensuring engines meet all requirements regarding steady-state performance, transient performance, operability, and control system integration across the full operating envelope from sea-level to high-altitude conditions. The individual will lead design trade studies, cycle optimization, and preliminary cycle design while coordinating with cross-functional teams in aerodynamics, mechanical design, and systems engineering. Key responsibilities include managing requirements through Model-Based Systems Engineering tools like CAMEO, performing performance modeling using NPSS, and leading test planning and verification activities. The role requires expertise in gas turbine performance analysis and control system design to solve complex propulsion challenges for uncrewed engines, expendable propulsion systems, and limited-life engine applications within a high-performance aerospace environment.

What you'll do

  • Lead the development of performance, operability, and control system integration strategies for the GEK1500 and GE426 propulsion systems.
  • Conduct design trade studies and cycle optimization to influence strategic focus areas and customer requirements.
  • Perform preliminary cycle design and performance analysis to drive component aerodynamic design requirements.
  • Manage SPOCT requirements and performance data using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools like CAMEO.
  • Develop test plans, instrumentation requirements, and data analysis approaches for performance and operability verification.
  • Analyze test data to validate performance models and assess operability margins across multiple test sites.
  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring to engineers across various disciplines supporting concurrent programs.
  • Ensure all technical data is documented according to engineering policies and procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in an aerospace or mechanical engineering position.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in one or more SPOCT primary disciplines including steady-state performance, transient performance, cycle design, engine operability, or control systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in gas turbine performance analysis, cycle optimization, and control system integration.
  • Proficiency with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools such as CAMEO Systems Modeler.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and conduct design space trade studies to influence strategic decisions.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DoD security clearance; current Secret clearance is desired.
  • Export-controlled information.
