The Small Uncrewed Engines Development Engine Test Lead joins the SUE Development Engineering Team to provide technical leadership for engine testing across a portfolio of advanced propulsion systems. This role serves as the primary technical authority for test planning, preparation, execution, data analysis, and issue resolution across multiple sites including GE Aerospace, Kratos Turbine Technologies, and Purdue University facilities. The individual will develop comprehensive test plans, manage instrumentation requirements, coordinate multi-site executions, and lead post-test data analysis to inform design decisions. Key responsibilities include ensuring safety compliance, managing facility capabilities, and coordinating with external partners. Required expertise includes propulsion system testing, turbomachinery, gas turbine engine operation, and data acquisition systems. The role requires proficiency in technical leadership, problem-solving, and coordination of complex activities for Department of War propulsion systems involving advanced instrumentation and high-speed data collection.
Develop and maintain comprehensive engine test plans including objectives, instrumentation requirements, and success criteria across multiple programs.
Coordinate multi-site test execution by establishing communication protocols and governance structures across various geographic locations.
Serve as the primary technical interface with external partners to manage reviews and ensure data flow.
Manage test facility capabilities, instrumentation gaps, and data acquisition systems to ensure site readiness.
Lead post-test data analysis to interpret results and inform design decisions for engineering teams.
Act as the technical authority for safety compliance, including hazard analyses and go/no-go decisions.
Implement lean engineering practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test efficiency and data quality.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
Minimum 8 years of experience in propulsion system testing, turbomachinery testing, or related test engineering roles.
Demonstrated experience leading engine test programs from planning through execution and data analysis.
Strong understanding of gas turbine engine operation, performance, and testing principles.
Experience with test instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and measurement techniques for propulsion systems.
Proven ability to coordinate complex test activities across multiple organizations and geographic locations.
Must be a U.S. Person (citizen, permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) capable of obtaining and maintaining a U.S. Government Security Clearance.
