The Software Engineering SMTS joins the Advanced Cross-Region Continuity team within the Core Infrastructure Engineering organization. This role focuses on building, automating, and hardening workflows to ensure critical services recover across regions with defined RTO/RPO behavior. You will design and maintain cross-region continuity workflows, orchestration systems, and validation frameworks for mission-critical infrastructure. You will solve complex operational problems involving site-switch automation, disaster recovery tooling, and multi-region cell architectures, potentially utilizing technologies like HBase, ZooKeeper, BookKeeper, and chaos engineering.

What you'll do

Design and maintain cross-region continuity workflows and orchestration systems for large-scale infrastructure.
Build validation frameworks and observability tooling to monitor real-time system readiness.
Define cross-system continuity contracts and integration boundaries with various service-owning teams.
Identify and retire manual operational steps through principled automation and documentation.
Develop software with clear runbooks, alerting, and observability hooks for SRE and DevOps teams.
Automate site-switch and disaster recovery activation sequences for mission-critical services.

What we're looking for

5+ years of software engineering experience in distributed systems, infrastructure automation, or platform reliability engineering.
Proven experience building workflow orchestration, automation pipelines, or control-plane systems at scale.
Strong proficiency in at least one systems or backend language such as Java, Go, or Python.
Experience with observability tooling, telemetry design, and building operational dashboards.
Familiarity with SDB, HBase, ZooKeeper, BookKeeper, or comparable distributed storage systems (preferred).
Experience with chaos engineering, fault injection, or large-scale resilience testing programs (preferred).
Prior work contributing to RTO/RPO programs, disaster recovery automation, or business continuity engineering (preferred).
Understanding of multi-region cell architectures and cross-region dependency management (preferred).
