JOB TITLE: Software Engineering MTS The Software Engineering MTS joins the Microservices Platform Service Mesh team to build highly scalable, distributed load balancing and gateway services. You will drive the implementation of next-generation data plane and control plane components, transforming the current software stack to adopt cloud-native primitives. Your daily work involves developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes to ensure secure, observable communication. You will utilize Golang, Java, and C++ within Linux/UNIX environments, leveraging open-source tools like Envoy and Istio. Key responsibilities include managing TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, and HTTP proxies while utilizing Kubernetes, Terraform, and Spinnaker. You will solve complex networking problems by delivering self-healing services that support blue/green deployments and access control for north-south traffic.

What you'll do

Drive the technical implementation of next-generation data plane and control plane infrastructure.
Build and maintain highly scalable, distributed load balancing and gateway services.
Transform the software stack to adopt cloud-native primitives for a reliable service mesh.
Develop and operate resilient distributed systems across thousands of compute nodes in multiple data centers.
Manage live-site operations, feature delivery, and the retirement of technical debt.
Establish paved-path patterns for reliability, performance, and operational excellence.
Participate in an on-call rotation to resolve complex real-time problems and maintain high availability.
Use telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence and system observability.

What we're looking for

4+ years of experience with a strong infrastructure background.
Proficiency in developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems in Linux/UNIX data center environments using Golang, Java, and/or C++.
Expertise in building large-scale distributed systems, especially in public cloud environments like AWS or GCP.
Experience operating large-scale cluster management systems, such as Kubernetes, for mission-critical services.
Knowledge of network technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies, and network load balancing.
Working knowledge of CI/CD, configuration management, and Infrastructure as Code principles like Spinnaker and Terraform.
Experience with Agile development methodology and Test-Driven Development with a focus on code quality and security.
Experience with Istio/Envoy is a huge plus (preferred).
