What you'll do

Write code and perform technical reviews while remaining directly engaged in day-to-day engineering work.
Manage, mentor, and guide a team of engineers through the full software development lifecycle.
Design, implement, and maintain foundational systems, frameworks, and platforms for Retail Engineering.
Architect and ship distributed systems using Java and other languages like Rust, C++, or Go.
Optimize performance and manage concurrency for high-scale, testable, and maintainable backend services.
Manage database schema design and query optimization across relational, NewSQL, and NoSQL databases.
Oversee the deployment of containerized applications on cloud-based Kubernetes platforms using CI/CD tools.
Collaborate with internal and external partners to deliver cross-functional projects that meet diverse stakeholder requirements.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of experience developing software in a professional capacity.
2+ years of direct people management experience leading at least three software engineers.
3+ years of experience designing, implementing, and shipping distributed systems with knowledge of secure cloud API/RPC design.
3+ years of experience with relational, NewSQL, and NoSQL databases including schema design and query optimization.
Proficiency in OOP principles, data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns for building testable and maintainable systems.
Experience with Java and at least one other language (Rust, C++, or Go) with mastery of concurrency and performance optimization.
Strong communication skills, including long-form writing and leadership presentations.
