The Software Development Manager,VIRSAT, KMM, Leo leads a team of software engineers responsible for building and owning the VIRSAT infrastructure for merlins and automation framework. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, automation, data analytics, MAC domain expertise, and OS domain expertise to democratize OS features on embedded systems. The manager will hire, mentor, and grow a high-performing team while setting technical directions for the KMM system and VIRSAT for a custom ASIC in a LEO system. Daily responsibilities include maintaining OS drivers, IPC, telemetry, and operational dashboards for system health monitoring. The role requires expertise in Java, C#, or C++, service-oriented architecture, and distributed programming to develop large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems. This position addresses the technical challenge of developing space-grade embedded systems while managing the full software development lifecycle.
Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of software engineers focused on embedded systems and automation.
Set technical direction and priorities for the VIRSAT infrastructure and automation framework.
Maintain and evolve OS drivers to support specific system requirements.
Oversee the design and maintenance of telemetry pipelines and operational dashboards for system health monitoring.
Make architectural decisions regarding performance, reliability, and maintainability for space-grade embedded systems.
Manage the development of the KMM system for a custom ASIC in the LEO system.
Align with cross-functional teams to manage roadmaps and dependencies across MAC and system domains.
What we're looking for
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or granted asylum/refugee status for export control compliance.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
7+ years of engineering experience.
3+ years of engineering team management experience.
8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services.
1+ years of technical leadership and project management for all aspects of the software development lifecycle.
1+ years of developing large-scale, multi-tiered distributed software systems using Java, C#, or C++.
Knowledge of engineering practices for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards, code reviews, and source control.
Experience in communicating with users and leadership to collect requirements and describe technical designs (preferred).
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring, and coaching teams of Software Engineers (preferred).
