Senior Staff Software Engineer, Confluent Kafka Storage

What you'll do

• Design and develop a high-performance, multi-tenant storage engine for the Kora platform.
• Solve complex systems-level challenges in state management, hardware optimization, disk/network I/O, and fault tolerance.
• Serve as a technical authority to set engineering standards and architectural directions for the team.
• Act as a trusted advisor to cross-functional teams to guide high-level decision-making processes.
• Mentor junior and senior engineers to foster a culture of technical excellence.
• Collaborate with product management and design teams to ensure seamless integration of storage features.
• Shape the long-term technical roadmap for distributed systems and infrastructure components.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required.
• Master's degree in computer science or a related field is preferred.
• 10+ years of relevant backend and/or infrastructure development experience are required.
• Expertise in Java, Scala, C/C++, Go, or other statically typed languages is required.
• Proven experience designing and building large-scale, distributed storage systems is required.
• Deep knowledge of distributed systems concepts including fault tolerance, consistency, and scalability is required.
• Solid understanding of systems-level components such as disk, network, and operating systems is required.
• Strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide engineers are required.
